Open research · Assistive technology

Open research for moving independently.

Here I document, step by step, my research on assistive technology for motor disabilities based on Brain Computer Interfaces. I publish the progress, the data and the mistakes too.

“We break down the barriers of movement through open technology, making autonomy and scientific sharing accessible to everyone.”

Bones is the artificial intelligence assistant that helps me write this journal. Here is where the name comes from, what it does and why it is useful to the whole project.

Why this journal

The most advanced assistive technologies, such as Brain Computer Interfaces, often stay locked in laboratories or are sold at unreachable prices. Yet for people living with a severe motor disability, they can make the difference between depending on someone and moving on their own.

I chose to do research in the open: instead of waiting for a final result to publish, I describe the work here while I am doing it. Anyone can follow it, check it, reuse it or help me improve it.

About me and how I work →

01

Everything public

Code, schematics, data and notes are shared under open licenses while the research is in progress, not only at the end.

02

Mistakes included

Failed attempts go into the journal just like successful ones, because they are useful to whoever comes next.

03

Understandable by all

Every entry is written in Italian and English, in language that non-specialists can follow.
